Skills and systems to list

What remote adverts asked for

In the adverts we read, remote roles asked for a reliable laptop, a stable internet connection, a headset and a quiet place to work. One asked for a fast fibre line with a backup and electricity with a backup. Say what you have, for example: "Own laptop and headset, fibre internet and backup power (inverter)." Only say what is true.

Avoid scams

A real employer will not ask you to pay for equipment, software or training before you start.

Be careful with very high pay for little work and with offers that only use WhatsApp. Verify the company first.

Questions people ask

Which hours do international roles use?
It varies. Adverts we read used UK hours (11:00 to 19:00 South African time), US hours including evenings and weekends, and Australian hours.
Do I need a second language?
Not for most. Some adverts are for German, French or Portuguese speakers. List a language only if you can serve customers in it.
